Sol Billeke The Lovers Seahorse Brooch

£2,100.00
Description

Designed and hand crafted by Sol Billeke, "The Lovers", is a unique piece handmade in 970 silver and pure 24k gold and is full of symbolism...

It's a piece that brings together many meanings, as it speaks about the mysterious symbolism of seahorses, which have long been linked to Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas.

Seahorses are also linked to values such as loyalty, fidelity, and strength because, in nature they are monogamous and when one of them dies, the other dies soon after.

"The Lovers", the true union between two beings.

This piece also expresses Sol's deep admiration for the Art Nouveau movement, in particular for René Lalique and his beautiful brooch called "Two Seahorses".

"The Lovers" is a unique pair, a work of art, made using the lost wax technique and the ancient fire casting method. I always mention that I use fire because electricity is currently used to melt the metal for casting, nowadays the relationship with fire has been lost."

This piece has been marked with a French Master’s Seal (Poinçon de Maître) and comes with an authenticity certificate.

Sol Billeke

Sol Billeke, originally from Valparaiso, Chile, is an artisan jeweller specialising in precious metal smelting techniques. He's based in Lannion, France.

His journey with fire started in 2006. Inspired by his infinite admiration for the beauty of the planet especially the ocean, his work reflects the landscape, nature and life on land & sea, specifically the textures formed by nature's organic and geometric patterns.

His Latin American travels brought him in direct contact with master goldsmiths' pieces, from the indigenous pre-Columbian region inhabitants to the Ecuador-Colombian and Costa Rican masters, as well as the Mapuche's (indigenous people from southern Chile and Argentina) silver-working techniques. These pieces carry magical messages that form a connection between the earthly world and the divine.

Sea Shepherd

Sea Shepherd is an international direct-action ocean conservation movement.

Sea Shepherd is an international, non-profit marine conservation organisation that engages in direct action campaigns to defend wildlife, and conserve and protect the world’s ocean from illegal exploitation and environmental destruction.

Our oceans and its inhabitants are dying from overfishing and habitat destruction. Poachers plunder marine life sanctuaries with impunity, and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing goes unchecked in the high seas far from public scrutiny.

International and national laws protecting the world’s oceans are difficult to enforce. Sea Shepherd uses direct action to defend marine life on the high seas, and works with national authorities to tackle illegal fishing in sovereign waters.
