The Provenance
This large terracotta plate features a striking blue and white Daylesford "love" design.
Making ceramics by hand requires a great deal of skill and experience, yet the process involves some uncontrollable factors.
Even when tried-and-tested glazes are used, makers have no control over the chemistry once it is in the kiln. Two otherwise identical pieces may come out looking completely different. Variations can occur because of the thickness of the materials, the layers of glaze, the positioning in the kiln or other pieces being fired at the same time.
This alchemy and its unexpected, beautiful and unique results are what we love about handmade ceramics. Also it's best to hand-wash this item.
