We are a river conservation charity focused on improving habitat for wild brown trout. These iconic fish are excellent indicators of river health, and use every part of the habitat during their lives. This means that improving rivers for wild trout benefits an enormous range of other species — they are fantastic mascots for freshwater wildlife.
Using both data-driven expertise and hands-on experience, our team develops and delivers habitat enhancement projects across the UK and Ireland. These range from grassroots volunteer activities to ambitious engineering works, and often involve long-term partnerships with Rivers Trusts, Wildlife Trusts, businesses, and government agencies.
Alongside restoring the health of rivers, we also empower others to do the same. We work closely with all kinds of people who own or manage rivers, from farmers and river keepers to local authorities and fishing clubs. We support a large number of community groups, equipping them with training, guidance, and peer learning opportunities.
While our primary focus is river restoration, education, and engagement — rather than campaigning — we do use our scientific and practical knowledge to advocate for rivers. We provide extensive advice to environmental regulators and other nature charities, and add our voice to discussions on key issues.
