VINTAGE

The summer of 2019 was warm but also quite wet – not an ideal combination for growing grapes in the marginal climate of the UK. We managed however to keep the grapes and vines healthy through a diligent approach to canopy management, leaf stripping and organic spray products.

WINEMAKING

We hand-picked early- to mid-October, with the fruit for this 100% Pinot Noir wine coming from our Thompson, Hunt and Dobson blocks. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed, fermented to dryness partly in barrels, then put through malolactic fermentation. In early April 2020 the carefully selected components were blended – and red Pinot Noir was added at this point – and the wine was bottled for the second fermentation. To preserve the intense fruit and freshness in this wine we decided to disgorge early after just 15 months on lees and with zero dosage.

TASTING NOTE

Fresh and fruity sparkling rosé made from 100% Pinot Noir grown here at the vineyard at Oxney. Delicate hints of red plums and subtle wild strawberry notes on the nose. We kept it fresh and youthful with moderate lees contact for a perfect balance with its fruity character. It’s naturally balanced, honest and moreish on the palate and therefore disgorged with zero dosage (no sugar added).

OXNEY ORGANIC ESTATE

Six miles north of Rye, in the village of Beckley in the south east corner of East Sussex, Oxney Organic Estate has been producing award-winning organic wines since 2014. The first vines were planted in 2012 by founders Kristin Syltevik and Paul Dobson, who run Oxney as part of a wider organic farming estate. Today Oxney is the largest estate producer of organic English wines. Oxney wines are crafted as a showcase for the naturally high-quality grapes grown in the vineyard. In the winery – a converted Grade II oasthouse – interventions are kept to a minimum to promote full fruit expression.
