Description

Tough Year – Great Wine!

This 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs offers classic linear precision lemony citrus backbone with a lovely fresh pastry character, brilliantly balanced acidity with low dosage. A wine to really wrap your tongue around and leave you salivating for more.

VINTAGE

The summer of 2019 was warm but also quite wet – not an ideal combination for growing grapes in the marginal climate of the UK. We managed however to keep the grapes and vines healthy through a diligent approach to canopy management, leaf stripping and organic spray products.

WINEMAKING

This 100% Chardonnay, Blanc de Blancs, comes from different parcels throughout our beautiful certified organic vineyard. Each parcel was pressed and fermented separately, and then went through malolactic conversion; for extra complexity, we like to ferment and age some of the base wines in older Burgundy barrels, as well as stainless steel. After an intense blending process, the wines were then placed in bottle for secondary fermentation and sat in our temperature controlled cellar for over 36 months on lees gaining even more complexity and autolytic character.

TASTING NOTE

Lovely lemon and citrus notes pair seamlessly with the brioche characters derived from extensive lees aging.

OXNEY ORGANIC ESTATE

Six miles north of Rye, in the village of Beckley in the south east corner of East Sussex, Oxney Organic Estate has been producing award-winning organic wines since 2014. The first vines were planted in 2012 by founders Kristin Syltevik and Paul Dobson, who run Oxney as part of a wider organic farming estate. Today Oxney is the largest estate producer of organic English wines. Oxney wines are crafted as a showcase for the naturally high-quality grapes grown in the vineyard. In the winery – a converted Grade II oasthouse – interventions are kept to a minimum to promote full fruit expression.
